Arkansas Life

Note: After Arkansas Life folded in July 2020, the magazine’s website was taken down by our parent company. Some of the pieces have been reposted in a text-only, un-bylined format, but unfortunately, hundreds of articles I wrote and edited from 2013-2020 are permanently lost. These are a selection of personal favorites that still exist:

Brick by Brick by Alice Driver

Space for the Public Eye by Frederick McKindra

Work of Quiet Mountains by Johnny Carroll Sain (subsequently republished by Bitter Southerner)

Leather Bound by Darcy Courteau

The First Step by Mariam Makatsaria

No Unsacred Places by Ragan Sutterfield

Of House and Home by Katie Bridges

Is This The Best Wine Ever Produced In Arkansas? by Seth Eli Barlow

… And these are a few issues that I led as editor:

Arkansas Life magazine: July 2019 (print quarterly)

Arkansas Life magazine: January 2020 (print quarterly)

Arkansas Life magazine: February 2020 (shorter, snappier digital-only version)

Arkansas Life: July 2020 (print quarterly)

Stry.us

An experiment in long-form narrative meets civic engagement, Stry.us was a grant-funded project that ran in Springfield, Mo., for several months in 2012. As editor of the publication, I spent a month digging up story leads (while living in an unfurnished apartment) before our four reporters arrived to start work. These are a few personal favorites that they produced. The rest of the stories can be found on the website of Dan Oshinsky, who was our founder/publisher.
